Cabinet Facts

The Education and Workforce Development Cabinet is made up of eight agencies. Below you will find a brief description of each agency and a link to its Web site.

Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing - Established in 1982 by the Kentucky Legislature, the Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a leading resource for the approximately 440,000 Kentuckians who are affected by hearing loss. The KCDHH is an advocate for deaf and hard of hearing persons on legislative issues, as well as a consultant to the governor, general assembly and various state and local governmental agencies concerning policies and programs that pertain to people with hearing loss. Department of Workforce Investment - The Department of Workforce Investment connects Kentucky to employment, workforce information and training. The agencies in Workforce Investment include the Office of Employment and Training, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Office for the Blind, and Office of Career and Technical Education. Browse their website.

Kentucky Department of Education - The Kentucky Department of Education provides services and resources to Kentucky's public school system, grades preschool through 12. The department's responsibilities include data reporting, assistance to local school districts, assessment and accountability for school improvement, and implementation of state and federal education legislation. Education Professional Standards Board - The Education Professional Standards Board oversees educator preparation programs and certification of teachers and administrators for the public P-12 schools in the commonwealth. Browse their website.

Environmental Education Council – The Kentucky Environmental Education Council was established to improve Kentuckians’ understanding of their environment through education, communication and information. It promotes a healthy environment by working with schools, colleges and universities, businesses, local governments, private organizations and citizens. Browse their website.

Department for Libraries and Archives - The Department for Libraries and Archives dates its origin to 1825, when the Kentucky State Library was established by the Kentucky General Assembly to serve state government in Frankfort. KDLA is one of 10 state agencies in the United States that combine library, archival and public records programs. Browse their website.

KET - The largest public broadcasting system (PBS) member network in America, Kentucky Educational Television (KET) delivers the PBS national schedule; its own wide range of local arts, cultural, documentary, and public affairs productions; and adult education programs and college-credit telecourses to television viewers throughout Kentucky and in parts of seven surrounding states. The Kentucky Center for School Safety - The Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS) was established by the General Assembly in 1998 to serve as a single source for information regarding all facets of school safety.   KCSS supports the idea that school culture improves when a school-wide prevention plan consistently addresses the needs of all students to encourage a safe and healthy learning environment.
